Walk this Way to My Sweet Pepper Land

Walk This Way is releasing the fourth title of its Premium Films selection: My Sweet Pepper Land, a western-inspired tale of love and justice set in Kurdistan which was critically acclaimed in the 2013 Cannes Film Festival’s Un Certain Regard section. The film will arrive in the Czech Republic, Finland, Italy, Norway, Slovakia and Spain on September 26, through many of the continent's main Video-on-Demand platforms, such as iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Sony, XboX, and key local platforms like Filmin, Flimmit and Universciné.

My Sweet Pepper Land has been described as a well-scripted “dramedy” about being marginalised in a place on the edge of the world. It has been selected for several international film festivals including the Abu Dhabi Film Festival, the Caburg Romantic Film Festival and the Chicago Film Festival, where it took home the Golden Hugo for Best Film. The film tells a love story between Baran (Korkmaz Arslan), a Kurdish Independence War hero who works as a policeman in a small village on the border with Iraq, Turkey and Iran, and Govend (Golshifteh Farahani), the village schoolteacher.

Iraqi-Kurdish director Huner Saleem returns to his native region with this colourful picture for those interested in the Middle-Eastern way of life. Saleem has directed ten films so far, and has received important awards at festivals such as Locarno, Munich, Nashville and Venice. The film stars Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani, known for her roles in Atiq Rahimi’s The Patience Stone, Asghar Farhadi’s About Elly and Jim Jarmusch’s Paterson, and for being a defender of women’s rights in the Muslim world.

This new film comes shortly after the release of the fourth collection of the 2016 edition of Walk This Way. Comedies à la Carte is a selection of some of the funniest mainstream films in recent times that includes a batch of top box-office movies to watch with friends and family - including Olivier Boroux’s Entre Amis and Benjamin Wedj’s Nice and Easy, among others – which has been available since 5 September.
